Lessons learnt from the Aircraft Interiors Expo & Farnborough International Airshow

McGreevy Engineering has recently returned from two successful exhibitions at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg and the Farnborough International Airshow. Both events allowed our team to showcase innovative products, build beneficial relationships and share important knowledge with fellow industry leaders.

Our team was fascinated by all the advanced solutions that were demonstrated while exhibiting – solutions which are set to make waves in the aerospace sector. Continue reading to find out more about our key findings from these two events.

Aircraft Interiors Expo

This year’s AIX Expo provided the ideal opportunity for our team to network with influential figures in the aerospace industry, including international suppliers, sector specialists, designers, engineers and manufacturers, in the search to create the ultimate cabin and passenger experience. Initially launched in 2000 in Cannes, the AIX Expo has grown over the years to incorporate over 500 exhibitors, offering the perfect opportunity to share, collaborate and find practical solutions.

In our industry, knowledge is the key to success, and the AIX Expo allowed our team to explore the latest products and technologies currently available. This is most clearly shown in our collaboration with Causeway Aero Group during the Expo, where we utilised our advanced technologies to manufacture parts for the seat and the rotating stand which featured as part of their exhibition.

A further highlight from the Expo was the CabinSpace Live Theatre, which provided our team with insights from cabin interior industry leaders, who shared their experiences and offered case studies to help solve future aviation challenges. We particularly enjoyed the live sessions on ‘Preserving your Asset Value through High-Quality Modifications,’ which discussed the need to retrofit existing fleets, as well as the session on ‘Making Sustainable Aviation Reality: How New Technology, New Players and New Mindsets bring us to Net-Zero,’ which heard from leading industry voices within the aerospace sector. Live sessions such as these strengthen our commitment to improving our sustainable practices, with sustainability playing a major part in our production moving forward, as we work towards reducing our use of polluting fuels and achieving our net zero target.

Farnborough International Airshow

With last year’s show seeing over 80,000 visitors from 96 countries, as well as over 1,500 exhibiting companies, the Farnborough International Airshow was truly a global event.

This year’s Airshow focused on six key themes, each of which resonates with the team at McGreevy Engineering – space, defence, sustainability, innovation, future flight and workforce. Our team gained invaluable insights from the daily FINN Sessions which were held, that provided a forum to share and discuss the major trends affecting the aerospace industry today and in the future. These sessions included thought-provoking talks, panel discussions, seminars and keynote speakers. Our team also paid a visit to the Research and Development Zone, a vibrant networking hub which brought together the best in advanced engineering universities, research and technology organisations to attract the next generation of engineers.

During this year’s Airshow, the team at McGreevy Engineering were selected for a meeting with Spirit AeroSystems as part of their Discovery Tour of UK Suppliers. This was a huge honour for the team at McGreevy Engineering, as we were the only Northern Ireland machining company to have been selected for this privileged meeting.

Ultimately, the Airshow brought together a huge range of products, ideas and solutions in one marketplace, creating the collaborative environment which the team at McGreevy Engineering values so highly. While the aerospace industry has been contracted these last two years, exhibitions such as Farnborough prove that the sector is more alive than ever.

At McGreevy Engineering, we always have one eye looking towards the future and at both of these exhibitions there was a clear focus on boosting business recovery, with key industry solutions being presented for the year ahead and beyond.

The team have come home with some great learnings and are excited to assist our customers in the aerospace sector, as together, we adopt these innovative solutions for the future.
